At Key Stage 4, students study their GCSE courses over the two year period, with the exception of GCSE RE which is externally assessed at the end of Year 10. Our assessment schedule is designed to reflect this two year programme and steadily prepare students for completing their final exam period in Summer of Year 11.
We give students the opportunity to have formal ‘Mock’ exams once in Year 10 and twice in Year 11. These Mocks take place in formal exam situations, rather than in class, and aim to ensure that students are comfortable with the experience by the time they sit their final exams.
This also allows us to provide feedback to students that is more than just topic specific, such as feedback on their exam technique, interpretation of questions and planning and timing taken in answering longer exam papers, particularly those with essay style questions.
Our assessments in each subject are set up to reflect the way each individual course is assessed, for example courses involving coursework elements will have this reflected in their assessment grading to ensure students and parents/carers have an accurate picture of the grade a student is working at for the course as a whole.
Details of when summative assessments take place, what is assessed and how for each subject and which summative assessments form the basis of each Progress Review grade can be found for each year group using the links below.
