The below information details how regularly students will be set homework in each of their subjects, approximately how long that homework should take students to complete and what types of homework might be set within each subject area.
Some schools choose not to issue homework because of the expectation that it will all be marked and because not all students engage with homework. We believe homework is an important aspect of school life that helps students develop organisation skills, learn the importance of meeting deadlines and helps to consolidate their learning in each subject. Students who complete homework do achieve better and are more confident with their work in lessons.
However, it’s worth noting that our policy is that one key piece of work or assessment (PINS) is marked by teachers every half term. Therefore, any homework set may be marked in class or online or may involve students learning information.
Students will never be expected to complete homework by the following day and homework will always be collected on a day when students have a lesson in that subject.
If students do not complete homework on time, they will receive an H code.
In order to support students with organisation and the completion of their homework, we run the following:
Year 7 and Year 8 - Homework Support Tuesdays in BS1 from 3-4pm
Year 9 – Homework Support Wednesdays in BS2 from 3-4pm
Students are welcome to attend Homework Support at any time but some students may be encouraged to attend if they are accumulating multiple H codes.
Year 10 and Year 11 – Study Support Wednesdays in IT3 from 3-4pm
Students are welcome to attend Study Support to complete their homework at any time but some students may be put into study support if they have homework or coursework that has not been completed to aid them in catching up with this work.
There are also a variety of ‘drop ins’ available for subject specific support. More details of these can be found on our extra-curricular timetable.
More detailed information about the types of homework students can expect to be set can be found below.
