A Level Business Studies

How is the course externally examined?

A Level Business Studies is 100% exam based.

 

This course is assessed by 3 examinations at the end of Year 13, covering 4 units:

 

Paper 1 (35%)

Theme 1: Marketing and People

Theme 4: Global Business

 

Paper 2 (35%)

Theme 2: Managing Business Activities

Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy

 

Paper 3 (30%)

Synoptic Assessment based on a pre-release covering all units

Students will cover Theme 1 and Theme 2 in their first year of study and Theme 3 and Theme 4 in their second year of study.

 

Year 12

Theme 1 – Marketing and People

Throughout the year you will be studying the following Learning Outcomes:

  • 1.2 The market
  • 1.3 Marketing mix and strategy
  • 1.4 Managing people
  • 1.5 Entrepreneurs and leaders

Theme 2 – Managing Business Activities

Throughout the year you will be studying the following Learning Outcomes:

  • 2.1 Raising finance
  • 2.2 Financial planning
  • 2.3 Managing finance
  • 2.4 Resource management
  • 2.5 External influences

Year 13

Theme 3 – Business Decisions and Strategy

This theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 2. You will develop an understanding of:

  • 3.1 Business objectives and strategy
  • 3.2 Business growth
  • 3.3 Decision-making techniques
  • 3.4 Influences on business decisions
  • 3.5 Assessing competitiveness
  • 3.6 Managing change

Theme 4 – Global Business

This theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 1. You will develop an understanding of:

  • 4.1 Globalisation
  • 4.2 Global markets and business expansion
  • 4.3 Global marketing
  • 4.4 Global industries and companies (multinational corporations).

How is the course internally assessed?

Students will be assessed each half term using past exam paper questions on content they have covered. There will be build up towards being able to complete a full paper for the end of year mock.
