How is the course externally examined?

Unit 1: Written Exam (40%)

Theoretical underpinning knowledge culminating with a 90 min externally marked (on line) examination of a broad range of construction topics including health and safety, building types, roles of key workers and professionals

 

Unit 3: Practical project with written elements (60%)

The practical project requires students to demonstrate project management skills to plan for a building task. Students also need to generate evidence of competences by completing practical controlled assessments in joinery, plumbing and electrical installation.

 

Vocational qualifications are graded with pass, merit or distinction either at Level 1 or 2. The numbers in brackets below are the GCSE equivalents e.g. L2P is a Level 2 Pass and is the equivalent to a GCSE grade 4.

L2D* (8.5), L2D (7), L2M (5.5), L2P (4), L1D* (3), L1D (2), L1M (1.5), L1P (1)

 

How is the course internally assessed?

Students are assessed every half term on a written assessment on theory covered that term and a practical assessment focusing on key skills.
