The course consists of three mandatory units. Two of which are non-examined units (coursework) which account for 60% of the course. These units are assessed by the classroom teacher and submitted to the exam board for moderation. The remaining unit is an examined assessment consisting of one exam paper lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes. This is completed as a terminal assessment at the end of the course in the summer series.

R059 Understand the development of a child from one to five years (Coursework unit 30%).
Topics include:
Physical, intellectual and social development norms from one to five years
Stages and types of play & how play benefits development
Observe the development of a child aged one to five years
Plan & evaluate play activities for a child aged one to five years for a chosen area of development
Vocational qualifications are graded with pass, merit or distinction either at Level 1 or 2. The numbers in brackets below are the GCSE equivalents e.g. L2P is a Level 2 Pass and is the equivalent to a GCSE grade 4.
Each half term students will conduct in class/mock assessments under controlled conditions in preparation for their external exam at the end of the course. These assessments will include previous exam questions based on the Topic Area(s) that the students have completed thus far. In addition, Students will be assessed on their completion of coursework tasks each half term. These marks will be added and weighted with their exam scores.
