Key Stage 4

Year 9 - Gateway to Business

Students will learn about the way in which businesses market their products, recruit workers, manage events and use finance to successfully operate.

This course would lead students to studying Business at GCSE.


Year 9 - Gateway to Enterprise

Students will complete a series of group tasks leading to them coming up with a product idea to sell in order to generate profit.

This course would lead students to studying Cambridge National Business: Marketing and Enterprise.


GCSE Business

This course covers all main areas of business operation such as finance, marketing, external influences and human resource management.

The course is assessed by 3 units:

  • Unit 1: Marketing and enterprise (Controlled Assessment 25%)

  • Unit 2: Business and people (Examination 25%)

  • Unit 3: Production, finance and the external business environment (Examination 50%)

GCSE Business Specification


Cambridge National: Enterprise and Marketing

This course is for students who are particularly interested in the process of coming up with ideas and marketing those ideas to potential customers. It is graded at: Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction *.

The course is assessed by 3 units:

  • Unit 1: Enterprise and Marketing Concepts (Examination 50%)

  • Unit 2: Design a Business Proposal (Coursework 25%)

  • Unit 3: Market and Pitch a Business Proposal (Coursework 25%)

A-Level Business

Students can complete a two-year course building on the topics covered in GCSE Business Studies.

This course is assessed by 3 examinations at the end of Year 13, covering 4 units:

  • Theme 1: Marketing and People

  • Theme 2: Managing Business Activities

  • Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy

  • Theme 4: Global Business

A-Level Economics B

Students can specialise in Economics by completing a two-year course which develops some business concepts and introduces new economic topics.

This course is assessed by 3 examinations at the end of Year 13, covering 4 units:

  • Theme 1: Markets, Consumers and Firms

  • Theme 2: The Wider Economic Environment

  • Theme 3: The Global Economy

  • Theme 4: Making Markets Work

A-Level Business B Specification


Cambridge Technical Level 3 Business

Students can take a two-year course where they will be able to learn a range of business topics but they will comprise combination of coursework and examination modules.

Over the two years, students will complete 5 modules:

  • Unit 1: The Business Environment

  • Unit 2: Working in Business

  • Unit 4: Customers and Communication

  • Unit 5: Marketing and Market Research

  • Unit 6: Marketing Strategy

Level 3 Business Brochure




  • Students studying Enterprise are able to take part in the “Tenner Challenge” where they are able to develop a business idea in order to generate profit from their initial £10 investment.

  • Students in Year 7 will be able to attend an after-school Enterprise Club.
